Plans change. Weather changes faster. This page explains exactly what happens to your money if you need to cancel, if you want to move your booking to another day, or if we have to call off a trip for safety reasons. We have written it in plain language, with no small print hidden anywhere else.
This policy applies to every booking made through seascape-boats.com, for both self-drive boat rentals and private skippered tours. It forms part of our Terms of Use, and you accept it when you complete your booking.
The short version
- Cancel more than 48 hours before departure and you get your full deposit back. No questions, no fee.
- Changing your date is always easier than cancelling, and it is free if you ask more than 48 hours ahead.
- If we cancel because of weather or safety, you choose: another date, or every euro back.
- No-shows are not refunded. If you are running late, call us. We will do what we can.
How our payments work
Every boat and every tour on this site is booked online in advance.
- You pay a 30% deposit when you book. This confirms your reservation and takes that boat off the calendar for everyone else.
- You pay the remaining 70% on the day, before departure. Accepted payment methods: Viva Payments, Revolut, Paypal, Stripe, Cash.
Your booking is confirmed only once you receive our confirmation email. Everything below is calculated from the scheduled departure time of your trip, not from the date you booked.
If you cancel
| When you cancel | What happens |
|---|---|
| More than 48 hours before departure | Full refund of your 30% deposit, or a free move to any other available date. Your choice. |
| Between 24 and 48 hours before departure | One free change of date, subject to availability. If you prefer to cancel outright, the deposit is retained. |
| Less than 24 hours before departure | No refund. The deposit is retained. |
| No-show, or arriving too late to complete the booked trip | No refund. The full booking price may be charged. |
Why the 48 hour line exists. We run a small fleet from one bay. When a boat is reserved, we turn other people away for that slot, we plan crew around it, and we prepare the boat. Two days is roughly the point at which we can still fill a cancelled slot. Inside that window, we usually cannot, which is why the deposit covers the loss.
If we cancel
Safety comes before the schedule, always. We will cancel or reschedule a trip if the port authority closes departures, if wind and sea conditions make the trip unsafe, or if a technical problem with the boat cannot be solved in time.
When that happens, you choose one of two things:
- Move your booking to any other available date or time, at no extra cost, or
- Take a full refund of everything you have paid, deposit included
If a trip is cut short after it has already started because conditions change at sea, we will offer a partial refund or a partial reschedule, in proportion to the time lost.
Please note that we cannot reimburse other costs connected to your trip, such as flights, accommodation, taxis, or other activities you booked around it. That is what travel insurance is for, and we recommend it.
Changing your date
We would almost always rather move you than keep your money.
- More than 48 hours ahead: free change to any available date in the same season.
- Between 24 and 48 hours ahead: one free change, subject to availability. Ask us. If we can move you, we will.
- If you move a booking and then cancel the new date: the original booking date is used to work out which window applies. This keeps things fair for everyone, since a date change is not a way to reset the clock.
Date changes depend on availability. In July and August, popular slots fill weeks ahead, so the earlier you tell us, the more options you have.
Refunds: how and when
- Refunds are paid to the original payment method. We cannot refund to a different card, account, or person.
- We process approved refunds within 14 days of accepting the cancellation. Your bank may then take a few more days to show it.
- Any transaction fees charged to us by the payment provider are not part of the refund.
- If you booked through a third party platform or an agency rather than directly with us, that platform’s own cancellation rules apply to your booking, and the refund is handled by them.
If 14 days pass and you have seen nothing, email us with your booking reference and we will chase it.
Late arrivals
Trips depart at the time on your confirmation. Boats behind you are booked, and on skippered tours the schedule is shared.
- Tell us as soon as you know you are running late, by phone on +30 698 170 6369.
- If we can still run the full trip, we will.
- If we cannot, the trip may be shortened to fit the remaining slot, and the full price still applies. Duration is measured from your original departure time.
- If you arrive after the point where the trip can no longer run, it is treated as a no-show.
Other situations
Fewer people than booked. The price of a boat or a private tour does not change if some of your group cannot come. You have reserved the whole vessel, not individual seats.
Illness or a missed flight. We are sorry, and we will always try to move your date first. Outside the 48 hour window the standard table applies, because we have no way to recover the slot. Travel insurance normally covers this kind of cancellation, and we will happily provide written confirmation of your booking and its cancellation for your claim.
Refusal at handover. For self-drive rentals we may refuse to hand over a boat, without refund, if the person named on the booking arrives visibly intoxicated, refuses the safety briefing, cannot provide the required identification, or is otherwise unfit to operate the boat safely. This is a safety rule, not a commercial one.
Ending a trip early for conduct. If behaviour on board creates a genuine safety risk to passengers, crew, or other vessels, we may end the trip early without a refund.
Force majeure. Neither side is liable for events outside reasonable control, such as extreme weather, port authority decisions, strikes, fuel shortages, accidents, or public health measures. Where such an event stops the trip from running, we treat it exactly like a cancellation by us: reschedule or full refund, at your choice.
How to cancel or change a booking
Contact us with your booking reference, name, and trip date:
- Email: seascapeboatrental@gmail.com (recommended, since it timestamps the request for both of us)
- Telephone: +30 698 170 6369
Cancellations take effect from the moment we receive your request, not from the moment you send it. If you cancel close to the 48 hour line, email rather than call, so there is a record.
We confirm every cancellation and every date change in writing. If you have not had a written confirmation from us, your request has not been processed yet, so please chase us.
Your legal position
Because your booking is for a leisure service on a specific date, the 14 day right of withdrawal that applies to most online purchases does not apply to it. This follows from Article 3ฮนฮฒ of Greek Law 2251/1994, which transposes Article 16(l) of Directive 2011/83/EU. The terms on this page apply instead, and they are the terms you accept at checkout.
Nothing here limits your mandatory rights as a consumer under Greek or EU law.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled a cancellation, please write to us first at seascapeboatrental@gmail.com. We would rather fix it directly. You can also contact the Consumer Ombudsman of Greece (ฮฃฯ ฮฝฮฎฮณฮฟฯฮฟฯ ฯฮฟฯ ฮฮฑฯฮฑฮฝฮฑฮปฯฯฮฎ), 144 Alexandras Avenue, 114 71 Athens, telephone +30 210 6460862, https://www.synigoroskatanaloti.gr, or, if you live in another EU country, the European Consumer Centre Greece, https://www.eccgreece.gr.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get my deposit back if it rains? Rain on its own does not stop a boat trip, and it usually passes quickly in Corfu. What stops a trip is wind and sea state, or a port authority closure. If we judge conditions unsafe, we cancel and you get a full refund or a new date. If conditions are fine and you simply prefer not to go, the standard cancellation table applies.
Who decides whether the weather is bad enough to cancel? We do, together with the port authority. We monitor the forecast for your date and contact you as early as we can, usually the evening before or on the morning of your trip. We would rather move you than run a trip you will not enjoy.
Can I change my booking to a different boat or a different tour? Yes, subject to availability. If the new trip costs more, you pay the difference. If it costs less, we refund the difference to your original payment method.
What if only some of my group cancel? The boat is booked as a whole, so the price stays the same. Just tell us the final number before departure, since it affects life jackets and safety equipment.
Do I need travel insurance? It is not required, but we recommend it. Insurance covers the things this policy cannot, such as illness, missed flights, and costs you booked around your trip.
I booked through another website. Who do I ask? Ask them. Bookings made through a third party platform follow that platform’s cancellation rules, and they hold your payment.
